In early 2020, Franziska Trautmann and Max Steitz, then seniors at Tulane University, were spitballing ways to keep their glass out of the trash. For all of its imbibing, New Orleans didn’t offer curbside glass recycling. For Ms. Trautmann and Mr. Steitz, this wasn’t just galling, but a missed opportunity. “We underestimated how much demand there was,” Mr. Steitz, 27, said. Now, four years later, their company, Glass Half Full, is the only glass recycling facility in New Orleans.

CNN —When Super Bowl Sunday rolls around each year — whether it’s in Miami, New Orleans, Los Angeles or Minneapolis — Las Vegas still draws the crowds. It took years — and a Supreme Court ruling legalizing sports betting — for the National Football League to view Las Vegas in a different light. “We’re sold out, have been for the last month,” said Paul Hobson, general manager of the Sahara Las Vegas hotel-casino. “Las Vegas has a lot of people going there for Super Bowl weekend anyway,” Stephenson said. Additionally, the visitors it attracts spend a whole lot more than the ones who would show up on your typical Super Bowl weekend, Hill said.

Landry, who served as the state's attorney general for eight years until he became governor, has repeatedly slammed Louisiana’s 2017 criminal justice overhaul. Harry Connick Sr., a long-serving district attorney in New Orleans whose office gained national notoriety for prosecutorial overreach that eventually resulted in many reversed convictions, died on Thursday at his home in New Orleans. His death was announced by his son, the singer Harry Connick Jr., in a statement. The older Mr. Connick was a singer himself and became locally renowned for his nightclub performances in the French Quarter. But his national reputation as a district attorney was much darker, particularly after a 2011 dissent by Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg that blasted the Orleans Parish district attorney’s office, under his leadership, for singular incompetence and misconduct. Justice Ginsburg found that Mr. Connick’s subordinates systematically hid evidence that could aid the defense, in violation of the Constitution.

In New York City, for example, the Bard Early College branches in Manhattan and Queens are sterling examples. For example, the Bard Early College programs focus on giving this opportunity to underprivileged kids by encouraging them to apply. Eighty-six percent of Bard Early College students go on to get B.A.s within six years, as opposed to a national average of 63 percent of college students who graduate. However, early college programs should play a larger role in those conversations, given the high rates at which their students graduate from college. Also, early college students have to pay for only two years of college.
